Welcome to My First Blog Post with Lady In The Shade
Hello, dear readers. For the first official blog article, I want to share a deeply personal journey with you—a melanoma diagnosis that led me to found Lady In The Shade and dedicate myself to raising awareness and promoting the prevention of melanoma.
My life changed dramatically in 2022 when I was diagnosed with melanoma in situ. Suddenly, the warm sun on my face, once a source of joy, became a trigger for fear and anxiety. The following weeks were a whirlwind of medical appointments, surgeries to remove the affected spot, stitches (and more stitches – I often joke that products should be made ‘Jordan-proof’), and, admittedly, lots of tears.
After receiving my diagnosis, I found myself slipping into despair. Usually, I crave information when facing the unknown, but part of me shut down after hearing my diagnosis. Thankfully, my friends and family were there to support me, educating me about melanoma, sharing statistics, and offering tips to prevent further issues.
This ongoing journey, with all its highs and lows, has taught me that there are numerous ways to prevent one of the deadliest skin cancers. This realization was a key reason for starting the Lady In The Shade blog. I wanted to create a space for learning, sharing, and supporting each other through the many complexities of life.
Lady In The Shade was born from this passion. It’s a place where my personal journey intersects with a collective commitment to skin health and safe sun practices. If you’re reading this, no matter where you are in your skin journey, know that you’re not alone. Whether you’re a survivor like me, someone navigating the challenges of sun protection, or simply seeking information to maintain healthy skin, you’ve come to the right place.
At Lady In The Shade, we celebrate the resilience of the human spirit, find inspiration in all things, and foster a community that prioritizes safe sun protection and skin health. Join me here each week as we embark on this empowering journey of awareness. Together, we’ve got this.
Stay Shady,
Jordan, Lady In The Shade
P.S. To close each blog post, I want to share a personal tidbit, opening up a little more to you, my readers. Today’s reveal: I’ve never broken a bone in my body.
